The layout will be a small fictional junction railway station. At this junction there is a small steam depot where locomotives can be serviced and stored. There will also be some switching all types of cars and some local industrie - I still need to decide on the industry and the destinations.
The railway station also services passengers.
Garrats
Africa is home for a vast collection of garratt engines, some of the most impressive series of this articulated type were built for African railroad companies. The EAR had it's fair share of Garratts, it's Class 59 was the biggest narrow gauge Garratt ever built.
I started this project with the decision to build myself a Class 59 Garratt in scale 1:87. I designed the chassis and valve gear using Inkscape and had it etched by PPD ltd. in Scotland - great service btw. It took me five versions before I had a running chassis. The upper parts I designed using Sketchup and printed by Shapeways. The first Garratt is almost finished, although I still have some detailing issues to solve. A second one is in the works.
