Common problems
Is something not going the way you expect? Here are the questions we get most often, with what lies behind them.
The buttons and the text are too small
Click Large buttons and text (150%) on the View tab, beside the full-screen button. The ribbon and all the panels then become one and a half times as large. One more click and everything is back to normal. TRAX remembers your choice in your browser, for all your layouts. If that is still not enough, you can also enlarge the whole page with Ctrl and +. Quicker: press Alt + Shift + T; the same keys switch it off again.
Two pieces of track will not join
Drag the dot of one piece onto the dot of the other, and only let go once your mouse is on it.
If you get the message This track does not fit together, the gauge differs. Mixing scales is fine, mixing gauges is not: TT track under H0m works, 16.5 millimetres against 9 millimetres does not.
A run will not move or turn
Then it is locked. Select a piece and turn
Lock off on the Item tab. The whole run is free again.
I change the height and everything comes along
Then the height difference is locked. With
Height difference on, a piece cannot change height relative to its neighbours: everything joined to it comes along, as if the grade there were zero. Turn it off if the piece may slope. See Heights and grades.
My track disappears into the mountain
Track keeps its own height, even where the ground is higher. Turn See-through (50%) on on the View tab to see where it runs.
If it is a tunnel, mark the piece with
on the Item tab. If not, take the ground away with the brush or fill in the terrain again.
The ground does not adjust when I raise track
Check in the Settings panel, under Terrain, whether Ground follows track and objects is on. In a new layout TRAX asks about it the first time you fill in the terrain. In a layout from TRAX2 it is off.
The camera no longer turns
Then your layout is in 2D: the camera looks straight down and does not turn. Press 3 or click Switch between 2D and 3D on the View tab. See Working in 2D.
My curve turns into a tiny circle
For Insert curve on the Track tab you first fill in the radius, after the R, in millimetres. Then the angle in degrees, and only then do you click the button. A small radius gives a small curve.
I cannot remove a library
If there is track from that library in your layout, it is ticked in grey and stays in. Remove that track first.
Part of my track is ruby red
Since you saved the layout, the track library has been corrected, and those pieces are no longer what they were. Replace or delete them; until then you cannot save the layout.
I do not see the grid
You turn the grid on and off in the Settings panel, under Grid. That is also where you set the size of the squares. In CAD the grid is on by default.
I removed something I wanted to keep
Ctrl + Z undoes the last step, and then the step before it. If you no longer know what you are in the middle of, press Esc: that turns every tool off.
It really goes wrong
Then send a report with
on the Project tab, or through the support form. Tick that the event log may come along: it holds what the editor did just before the problem. With View you first see exactly what you are sending.
