Module standards

A module is a piece of layout you take with you and join to somebody else's. That only works if the end is right: the same height, the same track position, the same profile. Every module group has its own agreements about that, and they are not interchangeable.

TRAX does nothing with this yet. As soon as you can draw a module with a standardised end, the measurements will stand on this page.

The groups it is about

• FREMO is the European group with the most variants, from H0 standard gauge to H0m and N. The end, the rail height above the floor and the profile are fixed per variant.
• NTRAK and oNeTRAK come from North America and are for N. NTRAK works with three through tracks at fixed spacings, oNeTRAK with one.
• T-TRAK is the small variant for N and Z: modules that stand on a table and are joined with Kato Unitrack.
• The Dutch and German club standards differ from FREMO on points, above all in the height and in the way the legs are adjusted.

What a standard fixes

• The end dimension: how wide the end is and where the track lies in it.
• The rail height above the floor, so that two modules line up.
• The profile of the end, usually a drawing you copy exactly.
• The electrical connection: which wire is where and with which plug.
